Deputy Governor Chairs High-Level Expanded PHC Taskforce Meeting in Jigawa State
Today, the Chairman of the State Taskforce Committee on Primary Health Care (PHC) and Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, His Excellency Engr. Aminu Usman Gumel, presided over a high-level Expanded Taskforce Meeting on PHC Service Delivery.
The strategic meeting, convened at the Manpower Development Institute (MDI), Dutse, brought together critical stakeholders from the health sector and allied Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to evaluate progress, deliberate on challenges, and reinforce multi-sectoral efforts aimed at enhancing the quality, accessibility, availability, and affordability of PHC services across the state.
Comprehensive presentations were delivered on the state's performance across key PHC service delivery pillars, followed by in-depth discussions, peer learning, and consensus-building on evidence-based strategies to improve outcomes and bridge existing gaps.
In attendance were the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Mustapha Makama Kiyawa; Honourable Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abdullahi Muhammad Kainuwa; Honourable Commissioner for Local Government, Alhaji Ibrahim Garba Hannun-Giwa; Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Hadiza Abdulwahab; and the Technical Advisor to the Governor on Health, Hon. Isah Surajo. Also present were the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim; Executive Secretary, Jigawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (JSPHCDA), Dr. Shehu Sambo; Executive Chairmen of the 27 Local Government Areas; representatives of the five emirate councils; PHC Managers from all 27 LGAs; as well as directors, programme managers, and senior technical staff from the State Ministry of Health and JSPHCDA.
Notably, the meeting was graced by representatives of major development partners and public health institutions, including the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, Solina Health, Sultan Foundation, and Chigari Foundation—underscoring the collaborative and multisectoral approach driving health system strengthening in the state.
As part of the engagement, selected Executive Chairmen were conferred with Awards of Excellence in recognition of their outstanding leadership, unwavering commitment, and strategic support towards strengthening PHC service delivery in their respective Local Government Areas.
The significance of this convergence cannot be overstated. It serves as a vital mechanism for high-level policy dialogue, sector-wide performance review, inter-agency coordination, and the institutionalization of accountability frameworks. The forum reinforced the collective resolve of the government and its partners to deliver resilient, equitable, and community-centered primary healthcare systems that leave no one behind.
This landmark meeting reflects the unwavering commitment of the administration of His Excellency Malam Umar A. Namadi, FCA, Executive Governor of Jigawa State, to revitalizing the primary health care system through visionary leadership, robust stakeholder collaboration, and strategic investments aimed at achieving universal health coverage and improved well-being for all citizens.
